curling energy

After 4th lesson in 6 Harmony 8 methods.
The sifu taught the importance of curling energy.
It is not as complicated or mystical as others try to describe.

It is not a big movement as books described.
It is a small movement. 1/8 of a circle, twisting motion.

reminded me
I have ignored the twisting footwork learned from Wing Chun.
The hand curling drills from Chum Kil

Improvements:
Learned by feel, the energy needs to be stored first in the calves muscles, legs, then the spine,

Will try to hold breath and keep the energy there,
like stretching the back, and holding it down, but keep a breath
for 10 counts.

Labor Day 2009 09 07

Standing exercise
right leg 24 minutes

Left leg 19 minutes,
legs has additional feeling.
It is not ants, not electricity.
small pulsing at different spots, more than one in each
fore-leg. Most on the calves, back side, where the muslces are.
The spots are not a straight line down. Could be a straight line.
if drawn. But not felt that way
At the end, after sitting down, the balls of the foot, and the toes
started the pulsing and electricity feeling.

But at 11 minutes,
The pinky, ring finger, and middle finger section of the
wrists started to feel as if
there is pressure within. Again only the wrists felt as
if more calcium went inside.

At both legs standing standing (14 minutes only)
The fingers themselves later started to feel
a line within each, and an air pump is pumping
But no swelling or pressure felt.

Intention

Modified cloud hands - nature fist.
The pulsing went from middle finger to
ring finger as I think of the finger.

Will try this for 20 minutes on tan tien tonight.

Thursday, September 3, 2009

Not full stomach Not emty stomach

Practiced walking with the modified cloud hands (nature fist)
right after lunch.
The pulsing and electric feeling was withing the righ forearm as I
only practiced with that arm.

Tuesday September 1, 2009

Tuesday night September 1, 2009

Finished a 20 minute variation of
Tai Chi swimming on dry land
with the Nature fist hands movement.
The movement has spiral intention.
With each step raising the knees high like in Tai Chi.

At end of 20 minutes, wife felt the heart beat.
To me it felt like electricity within the arms.
Yes, forearms has it too now.
************************************************
Wednesday night September 2, 2009

16 minutes on left leg. Standing exercise Santi of Xing Yi.
heart beat on both arms, as this variation wants both arms up.
There was a minute when left wrist bottom has a small pain,
or bug biting the inside near the bone, within the muscles.

Wife felt my hands and felt the heartbeat again. But the right hand
is less intense and disappeared fast.

Heart beat on fist

Yang Tai Chi improvement.
done about 15 minutes of "swimming on dry land"
and in the end changed palm to fist.
Heart beat started on the fist.
Wife felt it in seconds.

Xing Yi

completed 10 minutes a leg.
There is a cramp on my left forearm muscles.

Xing Yi

Legs Improvement
I was not able to run up steps like last week, just walked up faster.
Still not able to duplicate my 18 year old running up ability.

The legs muscles cramp, gets tired fast with
the Xing Yi standing posture.
I can average 3 minutes each leg, 2 sets.
Then 1 minute on last set.

I was able to stand for 6 minutes 1 night, but not every night.
Sweat poured out of my forearms at night on 2nd set.
It is a humid summer.

Hands + arms improvement
Sitting down, thought about the Xing Yi circling exercise,
and the palms and feet started pulsing. Stopped thinking, stopped pulsing.

AFter 400 reps, of cloud hands
and the 400 reps each side, on the circling on Sunday morning,
my right forearms felt within it, has a ball or a rubber band outside the bones,
but within the muscles. but there was, on the side on the palm, in the middle of the forearm the size of a pea pressing, or trying to grow within.

The left forearm felt heat on the bottom/back of palm side,
Straight from wrist to elbow, as I held in
"tan Shou" wing chun hand posture. The heat is not there on the Xing Yi hand posture.

Heart beat at my fingers and palm

This happens after 40 minutes of Cloud hands.

and happening after
hugging tree standing posture.

Read that my hands and arms should start to feel heavy.
Not yet.

Practice with Sincerity

This is a new phrase I learned from Master Sun Lu Tang.
Practice without sincerity ? I have to admit there were days
that's how I treated Tai Chi.

Tai Chi's rule past down is 3 rounds or 40 minutes at my fastest pace.
Sincerity pace ??

I did 40 minutes of cloud hands again yesterday.
I felt the pulsing. That's sincere practice.

I feel the needles or ants after 5 seconds of cloud hands.
But only in left hand.

I am really lazy

Just finished about 30 minutes of cloud hands.
The left hand of course felt more strange tinglings than the right hand.
This time, the wrist bone felt it, and then the tiger's mouth area
(also near thumb ),
then the ring fingers of both hands.

Heat was generated in the lower back muscles from the shifting weight from
one leg to the other. The warmth was stronger when I didn't shift as much weight
onto the knees. Staying more in the center, but I do shift some weight.
The heat did not go forward into the tan tien.

My wife again felt the heart beats in my left and right hands.
She first felt it in my palm in the area of tiger's mouth.
But this time, somehow I "exhaled" into the finger tips,
and she felt the "pulses" at the finger tips.

There was also, a little "cooling" feeling, not in the feet or legs like before,
but in the left arm.
I then opened the "kua" with Wing Chun stance.
Felt a very little tingling in the crouch area.

I am lazy. I should be doing this everyday.

Awake 2

I keep forgetting, that's why I have not progressed, improved.

After finishing 1 and 2/3 of Tai Chi before 8:45am,
my mind felt more alert, my eyes seem more open.

I felt this before. In the beginning, after 2 rounds, then
after 3 rounds. Perhaps it is the slow speed, or the fresh air.
And then sometimes in the end of 3 rounds, I fart.

I need to do this every morning.
I walked for almost 1 hour this morning, and I didn't have this feeling.
I felt some effects of fresh air, that's it.

New Feeling in feet

After 20 minutes of cloud hands after lunch.
Did 10 minutes of Xing Yi standing.

My feet started to feel pulses.

There is pain again today from "inner Circle hand" after after about 4 minutes.

Change its name

I might have to change the name of this
to Xing Yi.

I am reading Sun Lu Tang and another author's on Xing Yi.

Last Saturday, learned about 8 moves from Chen Tai Chi.

Spinal Cord and Itch - News April 6 2009

Relief from itch seen in nerves; may aid treatment
By MALCOLM RITTER – Apr 6, 2009

NEW YORK (AP) — Scratch an itch and you get ... aaaaaah. Now scientists have watched spinal nerves transmit that relief signal to the brain in monkeys, a possible step toward finding new treatments for persistent itching in people.

More than 50 conditions can cause serious itching, including AIDS, Hodgkin's disease and the side effects of chronic pain treatment, said Glenn J. Giesler, Jr., a neuroscientist at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. Some terminal cancer patients even cut back on pain medication just to reduce the itch, he said.

Scratching can lead to serious skin damage and infections in people with chronic itch, he said. So scientists want to find ways for such people to relieve their distress "without tearing up their skin," he said.

While medications can relieve some kinds of itch, other cases resist current treatments.

Nobody knows just how scratching relieves itch. But the federally funded monkey study, reported Monday on the Web site of the journal Nature Neuroscience by Giesler and colleagues, takes a step in unraveling the mystery.

The scientists focused on a kind of spinal nerve that transmits the "itch" signal to the brain. These nerves reach into the brain from near the bottom of the rib cage.

The researchers sedated long-tailed macaques for the experiment and placed recording electrodes on their spinal nerves. They injected a chemical into the skin of a leg to produce itching. The nerves fired electrical signals in response.

Then the researchers scratched the leg with a hand-held metal device that simulates three monkey fingers. The firing rate dropped — the apparent signature of the "relief" signal.

In contrast, when researchers scratched the leg without causing an itch first, the firing rate jumped. So the nerves somehow "know" to react much differently if there's an itch to be relieved than if there isn't.

"It's like there's a little brain" in the spinal cord, Giesler said. "We really want to understand that, because then we think we'll understand how to relieve itch."

Maybe scientists can identify signals that tell these nerves to provide the relief response, and then try to mimic that action with drugs or some kind of stimulator, he said.

Dr. Gil Yosipovitch of the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C., who didn't participate in the study, said in an e-mail that his own work shows that particular brain circuits also play a role in how scratching quells itch.

He called the new study "very important" and said it opens further research on the nervous system and itching.

Lazy on Tai Chi

I have not practiced Tai Chi for at least the
correct diligence. The 30 minutes a practice session.

I have completed 200 steps on inner circle hand.
The back is tired as if I were splitting wood with an axe.

Completed 30 minutes hugging tree standing.
So, before 9am, my back and knees were tired or in pain.
But I feel stronger.

Finally started 100 punches again. I had the Intention punch once
back in 1991 or 1992. It is from 100 punches. Happened in right hand.
I was waiting for a train in the subway. I stood, I thought of punching.
And seems like I had threw a punch, toward the floor.
It will return.

New feeling old feeling

Had this feeling years ago, but it came back.

Was doing inner cloud hands, standing still, feet apart.
Waist turned a little to stimulate the blood in the spine.

After 6 to 10 minutes, very warm blood flowed down my right leg,
not the entire leg, just some parts.
Then warm blood flowed down 1 or 2 part of left leg, but not as much.

After "inner circle hand" Natural Fist walking today,
Seemed stronger, I can push the wall while walking.
Never noticed this before.

Felt very bad at 6am. Almost didn't want to do my daily walking.
Felt like minor food poisoning. Could only do 30 pushups with a lot of effort.
Used to be no effort.
From 6:15 am, Walked about 55 minutes. Felt much better.

Last night, read, one Tai Chi master spend 7 years on Tai Chi,
7 years learning yielding,
7 years learning issuing energy.
Where am I within the early 7 years ?

Waking up

1. I had a problem waking up today. Feels like my back was stuck to the bed.
Today is Monday morning, refused to get up until 6:05 am, and walked for 1 hour.
After walking, felt better.
Possible problem, my wife put the dirty book next to the bedtable, which is less than 1 foot from my nose. The dirty book was on the floor at least one week.

2. My shen, "spirit" refuse to "activate" and feel refreshed, wake up for weeks.
After doing waste rotation, 50 times clockwise, 50 counterclosewise, and
a "shit", my eyes felt they have more energy, and I woke up !!!
I woke up !!!
I woke up !!!
I woke up !!! Felt alive, and aware of my surroundings like I was 11 again.

The waste rotation is legs straight, feet 1 foot apart, bending at the waste, turn, back at standing position, bend at the other side, bend down.

Single Cloud hands

I am less than 180 pounds this morning.
Did not walk in the morning for 2 days as I have for 6 weeks.
At least 1 hour the morning,
About 1 hour at 1 pm.

It seems single cloud hands increase strength
faster than the double cloud hands
After 400 reps of double cloud hands,
the left arm still does not feel filled up like the prior session (a year ago)

My lower back and dan tien area started to feel warm.
First the back, then the warmth traveled to the front.
Still heavily in the back.

Last night, my carves, lower leg muscles on the back,
started to be sensitive, breathing.

Last night Used the Gyro power ball. Left Arm felt full.
This morning, seem to still feel the ball's motion in my left hand.

Prior to using this power ball, the tinkling, sensitive very light pusling,
was going on not in the center of the palm, but around it,
on the skill.
Now, the tinkling flows, in at least 2 directions,
From Thumb, through the air, to the other fingers,
or from the other 4 fingers, through the air to the thumb

Hugging Tree update

I have done about 3 sessions of 40 minute hugging tree standing exercise.
This latest today morning at 5:34am to 6:16am
did not feel the pain I had felt on the previous session.

The previous session, the pain came at 15 minutes and gone at 28 minutes.
Also very painful for 2 to 5 minutes at end of session, as I put down my arms.

At around 4pm, felt sleepy, stood up in hugging tree posture / standing
for 1 minute, and I woke up.

I can do the "inner circle hand' walking for 120 steps, 2 rounds, and then 40 steps
on the 3rd round.

Walking - The secret of kung fu masters

A Hong Kong movie director,
talked about his wife's cancer, which was cured 95% by Chi Kung.
The exercise he noted only included walking from 5:30am in the morning
for one and a half hours.

This is my third week walking.
I had diarrhea the second week, and it drained my energy.
I am also walking during lunch.

At least 1 hour in the morning, at least 45 minutes at lunch.
During the morning walking, I am including the "hugging tree" hand posture.
During lunch walking, I am punching.

migraine headache and Tai Chi

I haven't had a headache for months.
Tai Chi solved it.
There was a few nights when I went to sleep very late,
past 1 am.
I was worried about headaches.
It was acceptable.
Had to perform Tai Chi to remove it.

Hugging Tree

Did I improve ? I don't know.
But a senior student at the Wing Chun school I am attending
felt my arms are heavy, and a bubble behind the arms.
That's the Hugging tree stance.
